The Gut - Over 4000 Feet Of Important Terrain

Let me just say that I am infatuated with the gut. Always have been. Maybe it is because mine has always been so sensitive. I am so glad medical professionals are starting to understand the importance of good gut health.

Amy Myers MD confirmed that, "Nearly 80% of immune system lives in your gut, and it's also where around 95% of your serotonin (your #1 mood regulator) is produced! That's why reversing chronic illness, particularly autoimmunity, begins in the gut."

I know leaky gut is a controversial topic. However, I believe it to be real…and more than just a symptom to another disease. I am beginning to find that most, if not all, of my health issues are due to a leaky gut.

What is a leaky gut? Essentially it is increased intestinal permeability. So folks with IIP end up with a lot of junk in their bloodstream…food, toxins, bacteria, etc. And guess what can happen when that barrier is invaded by such nastiness? Lupus, Type 1 Diabetes, Asthma, Allergies, Obesity, Mental Health Issues…to name a few.

So what is the solution to IIP? A changed diet, reduced stress, reduced toxin exposure and reduced medications. This sounds overwhelming, but I am slowly starting to make these changes and am already noticing some positive things.

  1. I totally agree that what we eat matters greatly. I’m already making some changes since getting the cancer diagnosis.
